ICC T20 World Cup 2026: Results, Winner, Squads & Highlights

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is now complete, with India lifting the trophy after a dominant campaign on home soil. The defending champions defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final in Ahmedabad to claim their third T20 World Cup title.
India’s victory was significant beyond the result itself. They became the first team to win the Men’s T20 World Cup three times, the first side to successfully defend the title and the first team to win the tournament on home soil.
The tournament featured 20 teams and was hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka. It began with a 40-match group stage, followed by the Super 8s, semi-finals and final.
This page brings together the final result, tournament format, major results, Pakistan’s campaign, standout performances, records, squads and broadcasting information.
ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Winner
In the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India scored 255/5 before bowling New Zealand out for 159 in 19 overs, winning by 96 runs.
The result gave India their third Men’s T20 World Cup title, following their previous triumphs in 2007 and 2024.
It also completed an unusual sequence of firsts:
- India became the first team to win three Men’s T20 World Cup titles.
- India became the first team to defend the Men’s T20 World Cup.
- India became the first team to win the men’s tournament on home soil.
- India became the first team to win consecutive Men’s T20 World Cup titles.
T20 World Cup 2026 Final: India vs New Zealand
India reached 255/5, the highest total in a Men’s T20 World Cup final. Sanju Samson scored 89, registering the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final.
Samson and Abhishek Sharma also gave India an explosive start. India reached 92 without losing a wicket during the Powerplay, setting up a total that proved too difficult for New Zealand to chase.
New Zealand’s chase never developed into a sustained challenge and ended at 159 all out, giving India a 96-run victory.
Final result
| Team | Score | Result |
|---|---|---|
| India | 255/5 | Won by 96 runs |
| New Zealand | 159 all out | Runners-up |
- Player of the Tournament: Sanju Samson
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 Campaign
Pakistan reached the Super 8 stage but did not qualify for the semi-finals.
Their final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka became a must-win contest. Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs, posting 212/8, but needed a much larger margin to keep their semi-final hopes alive. Sri Lanka finished on 207/6, meaning Pakistan missed out on qualification. New Zealand progressed instead on net run rate.
Despite Pakistan’s early exit, Sahibzada Farhan was one of the outstanding batters of the entire tournament.
He finished with 383 runs in seven matches, the highest tally by a batter in a single edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup. He also became the first player to score two centuries in one edition of the tournament.
For Pakistan, Farhan’s performance was one of the clearest positives from an otherwise inconsistent campaign.
T20 World Cup 2026 Player of the Tournament
Sanju Samson was named the Player of the Tournament after playing a decisive role in India’s run to the title.
Samson scored 321 runs in five innings, averaging 80.25 at a strike rate of 199.37.
His strongest performances came late in the tournament. He scored an unbeaten 97 against West Indies, followed it with 89 against England in the semi-final, and then made another 89 in the final against New Zealand.
That late burst transformed Samson’s tournament from a slow start into one of the defining individual performances of the competition.

T20 World Cup 2026 Prize Money
The final ICC prize-money announcement confirmed a total players’ prize pool of US$11.25 million, rather than the US$13 million figure stated in the original version of this article. India received US$2,639,423 after winning the tournament, while runners-up New Zealand received US$1,422,692.
This is an important correction for the post-tournament version because the original prize-money figures were published before the tournament and do not match the final ICC distribution.
